Developing A Powerful Morning Routine

You guys, when I tell you there is nothing like having a morning routine I truly mean it. Towards the end of 2017, I started to realize that positive morning routines have power. They have the power to transform not just your day, but your entire life. As my self-awareness began to grow overtime, I started to notice that the very first thing I thought about in the morning was an overwhelming to-do list of things that needed to be done. And some days, I would wake up feeling like I couldn’t even manage my own feelings and racing thoughts. As soon as I opened my eyes, anxiety, comparison, hustle, checklists, and stress would come upon me. And once it was there, it was hard to turn it off until bed that night, only to return first thing in the morning. The cycle continued. Until, I decided that my mornings were going to be peaceful and relaxing. I started to develop a routine that made me feel good inside and out every morning. Now I will say that in the beginning, it will take some getting used too. It’s a discipline that you must work toward. Breaking old habits and creating new ones, does take time. But I challenge you, for at least 21-days, to spend the first 30-45 minutes of your day in quiet, peace, and positivity. Win the day, demand peace, and take back your confidence!

Major In Love

First off, Happy Valentines Day! Some people either really love this holiday, while others really hate on it. Personally, I think it’s a really special day! And not just for couples, but for everybody who is capable of expressing love. And I know I’ve said this before, I am a TRUE sap. So I’m here for all the couple pics, dates, flowers, galentines, chocolate, and sappy IG posts. Listen, I may be single, but I ain’t no hater. Okurrr

I think the most important part of this day is remembering the things in life that are most important: God, family, friends, significant others, and all people in general, even strangers. This day reminds us to stop and take a moment to express love to others. And oftentimes, we get so caught up in the daily “grind”, that we forget about the major things in life. Money, success, careers, material things, these things that can be important, but aren’t everlasting, so I’ll call these things our “minors” in life. Because at the end of the day, what us humans really want is to love and be loved. And unfortunately, we spend a lot of time looking for that fulfillment in our “minors”, and they never truly give us happiness. So we must make our “major” in life, LOVE. And just like any college major we must: study it and practice it, so we can be tested on it and PASS. We may not pass every time, but our daily improvements will yield results that can not only change our lives, but the world!

Pressure For Purpose

 

As a 21 year old senior in college, the pressure to find purpose is more real than ever. We all know that nobody gets asked more about purpose and career choice, more than college students. At this point, I’m immune to the questions and I can always assume that if I’m meeting somebody for the first time that “what do you want to do after you graduate?” will be asked 9/10 of times. Questions like these, combined with my quest for purpose, have haunted me for years. And I can’t imagine I’m the only one who feels this way. See the problem for me is that in our world we’ve been taught that what you major in and the type of job you have, defines who you are. So we’re putting so much pressure on ourselves to find that “thing” that will mark us as successful in the eyes of the world. This idea of “success” is typically associated with job rank and how much money you make. We’ve pushed aside passion and purpose for a bigger paycheck, and as a result people are more lost than ever before.

And unfortunately, not enough parents, adults, and professors teach us the most important lesson of all, that it’s okay not to know and that it’s okay to change your mind. Because truth is, most of us are confused about our purpose. So all I want to do is help you redefine what purpose and passion is. This is my journey of how I went from confusion to confidence over the past four years.

When It’s Time to Delete Social Media

Let’s get real with this whole social media thing. Because everybody has a very different perspective on the value of social media in our society. Is it beneficial? Is it negative? Is it disconnecting our youth? Does it promote self-awareness? There are many different answers to these questions, all which are very relative. But I think it’s very funny that regardless of your personal view on the various platforms, almost every person seems to use some form of social media. Even the ones who hate on it. And that’s because nobody wants to really feel left behind. People want to know what’s going on in the world, with their community, with celebrities, and even more so, they want to highlight what’s going on in their own lives. I for one, love social media for many reasons. I love the networking aspect of it, building a community, promoting your brand, and connecting with others. And of course I love creating aesthetically appealing content that people can be inspired by. BUT, there does come a point, even for me, when the app has gots-to-go. For real. And that’s because it can become really overwhelming and damaging very quickly.

But how do we know when our love for social media has turned into an addiction? How do we know when the apps are distracting us from our God given purpose? And at what point are we able to properly identify that social media is doing more damage than good?
