Developing A Powerful Morning Routine

You guys, when I tell you there is nothing like having a morning routine I truly mean it. Towards the end of 2017, I started to realize that positive morning routines have power. They have the power to transform not just your day, but your entire life. As my self-awareness began to grow overtime, I started to notice that the very first thing I thought about in the morning was an overwhelming to-do list of things that needed to be done. And some days, I would wake up feeling like I couldn’t even manage my own feelings and racing thoughts. As soon as I opened my eyes, anxiety, comparison, hustle, checklists, and stress would come upon me. And once it was there, it was hard to turn it off until bed that night, only to return first thing in the morning. The cycle continued. Until, I decided that my mornings were going to be peaceful and relaxing. I started to develop a routine that made me feel good inside and out every morning. Now I will say that in the beginning, it will take some getting used too. It’s a discipline that you must work toward. Breaking old habits and creating new ones, does take time. But I challenge you, for at least 21-days, to spend the first 30-45 minutes of your day in quiet, peace, and positivity. Win the day, demand peace, and take back your confidence!

Here’s 5 things that will help kick

start your new morning routine:

1. Repeat Words of Affirmation

I believe 100% that words of affirmation are so critical in our confidence and success. There is POWER in our words. I love to remind myself DAILY, that I am confident, patient, kind, beautiful, complete, grateful, etc. (I have 7 pages worth of affirmations!) That is because on a daily basis we deal with comparison, insecurities, and just straight up haters. So we must CHOOSE to lift ourselves up. People can only love us to the extent we love ourselves. If you don’t start believing in you, who else will? So hype yourself up in the morning! It may be weird at first, but eventually you will begin to believe it and see the power it yields in your life.

2. Prayer & Worship

Okay for me, this is my secret weapon. The very first thing I do when I wake up, is spend time in the presence of God. I put on my gospel playlist, grab my bible, get on my knees, and get prayed up! All prayer means is having a conversation with God, thanking Him, talking to him, and listening to Him. Through prayer I am able to make declarations over my day that come straight from God’s word.  When I start my mornings with God, it breaks me from all anxieties, fears, and overwhelming thoughts. It truly fills my morning with true gratitude, joy, and peace. So when you wake up in the morning thank God for a new day. And whatever is causing you to stress or worry, simply ask God to take care of it. He is faithful and will always deliver!

3. Meditate

Alright this one I don’t personally do, but I do believe that it can be very beneficial for certain people. Meditating is really hard, mostly because it requires you to completely empty all of your thoughts. It’s definitely something that requires practice, patience, and discipline. But I’ve read that it can be a great way to reduce stress, increase awareness, and simply bring peace into your life. So I say, give it a try! Start off with small intervals of time, then as you get better push yourself to do it longer. I recommend using one of those meditation apps, they can help you track your time, progress, and goals.

4. Read

Now what is more relaxing than getting lost in a good book? Sometimes that’s just what you need in the morning, to forget about to-do lists and all of your present circumstances. My bible is always my morning go-to because it teaches me so much about EVERYTHING. Time doesn’t exist, my problems aren’t problems, and my heart truly feels good. I believe that reading can help us tap into our spirits, dreams, and desires by disconnecting us from our present. So start making it a habit to pick up your fave book in the morning! Get lost in every word and let peace takeover you from the inside-out.

5. Journal

This is my fave (fairly new) practice. A little over six months ago, I started to notice that I was becoming very overwhelmed by my own thoughts. So much so, that I didn’t understand my own feelings, I was unable to make decisions, and I wouldn’t even know what to pray for. I was stuck in a state of analysis paralysis. And I don’t know about you, but I have A LOT of feelings, emotions, thoughts, and everything in between. So in order for me to process these things, I HAVE to write. For me, journaling gives me the clarity needed to jump start my day peacefully. So if you wake up in the morning feeling full of gratitude, hurt from the past, or overwhelmed by the weight of the world, write it all out. Be honest, be emotional, and let it be free. In order to win your day, you must let go of all things that are trying to hold you down!
